Old Souls K9 rescue is in the midst of a major legal battle
Old Souls K9 rescue and retirement home of Yuma met with county officials tonight to present their case against those who are trying to shut the rescue organization down. Since 2010, the non-profit rescue organization has dedicated their time to helping save geriatric and hospice dogs in need, however some neighbors within the community came together to plead their case on why they felt the organization was causing more harm then good. Making accusations that the owners are keeping an unkept facility to even stating that by operating the rescue it’s bringing the property value down in the neighborhood. Several people who attended tonight’s meeting, were their to support ‘Old Souls,’ however those not in favor of the organization stated that they felt the rescue group harassed them and used cyberbullying as a form of intimidation.
It is now up to the case managers of the meeting to make a recommendation to the county supervisors on whether ‘Old Souls’ should be allowed to stay or go. All which will be determined in the next couple months under what is called a ‘special use permit.’ The amount of people that did show up to in support for ‘Old Souls” was tremendous. Most had to wait in the lobby due to the meeting area being at full capacity.
“County supervisors will decide in November. It was a 5 to 2 vote, 5 being in favor of Old Souls. With a 1 year probation period, instead of a 5 year permit. We received lots threats and are terrified for the safety of our animals. The whole right side of the courtroom was against us with 67 opposing letters written.”
