Several Yuma schools placed on lock down

BREAKING NEWS: Lockdown has just been lifted. They’re letting students leave for the day at Centennial Middle School and Mesquite Elementary School.

UPDATE (11:40 a.m.): YCSO and YPD are confirming now that the lockdowns will be lifted by noon.

UPDATE (11 a.m.): The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office is now saying there is not a confirmed timeline of when the lockdown will be over, but they said the students are safe.

When we spoke to YPD said they believed the lockdown at the schools would be over by 12 p.m., but that is not certain at this time.

According to Alfonso Zavala with the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office the students are safe.

YCSO said this is part of standard procedure when there is a threat.

At Mesquite Elementary School parents are telling us that they are letting them pick up their children from the school.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Crane Middle School and Mesquite Elementary School is placed on a sheltered lockdown Thursday morning, according to Crane School District.

The Yuma Police Department received information at 7:00 a.m. of threats made to Crane Middle School via social media.

The Yuma Police and the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office are on scene and investigating the threats.

“Crane Middle School is on lockdown, and everyone is safe,” Crane School District said just before 9 a.m. “There has been a social media threat against somebody to somebody. Police are conducting an investigation.”
