Police warn of threats and intimidation through social media app

The Yuma Police Department is warning the community about recent reports of students receiving threats and harassing messages via “Snap Chat”, a social media application.

Unknown persons are friend requesting students through “Snap Chat” and demanding nude photos. If the student does not comply, threats are made to hurt their families.

Parents are advised to talk to their children and be aware of what social media applications children are using. It is also recommended to make sure the app’s settings are set to private and the GPS locations are not shared.

Awareness and education can be used as tools to help keep students safe.

If you have any questions about social media safety or other concerns, please contact the Yuma Police Department at (928) 373-4700.
