White House says ‘President Trump will travel to Arizona to tour the border’

President Trump is coming to Yuma on Tuesday before holding a campaign-style rally in Phoenix.

We learned on Monday he is planning on touring the border and discussing on securing our nation.

From Washington D.C. to Yuma County, this is his first visit to the state since he was elected back in November.

Yuma’s location along the U.S.-Mexico border touches on one of Trump’s signature issues: his call for building a border wall to reduce illegal immigration from Mexico.

President Donald Trump is scheduled to arrive at the Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma where 200 Marines will be there to greet him on Tuesday.

According to the White House press, he is planning on touring the border.

President Trump has recently been visiting states where he has strong support. Yuma in specific is where he won the county by a percentage point in 2016.

However, according to officials, protests are expected and they are making sure security is their top priority.

“I don’t believe we had any protests back when President Bush was here. So, we didn’t even have to worry about that part of it. This time we do, of course, know that there is one protest that they are saying is going to be peaceful. We hope so. We hope you know. You have your right to your freedom of speech, but you know, peaceful, respectful, and safely,” said Lori Franklin of the Yuma Police Department.

Amongst security, road closures are expected similar to when former President George W. Bush came to the desert Southwest.

“We do have extra officers out there because streets have to be typically blocked off. Back in ’06 several streets were blocked off. Our officers were out there roving making sure that everything was okay,” said Franklin.

President Trump is expected to arrive sometime before noon tomorrow afternoon and leave around 3 p.m. to host his rally in Phoenix.
