Online and Out of Touch
Social Media is a way kids and teens are staying connected to the world, but how much of it can make you lose touch with reality?
According to Eric Frost Consulting, kids who spend too much time on social media or online video games are more likely to lose touch with “real life”. Risking your life or sharing too much information online for a few “likes” isn’t worth it, especially with online predators who are looking for their next victim to groom on social media.
“What is becoming is kids’ life on the video game is becoming so much better, that they lose touch with reality. If you take that social media away it’s like you take away their whole world.”
Kids and teens who spend too much time online, slowly start to think they are, what they “post”.Frost adds, “They(kids) start to take on different ideology especially when they’re being to be groomed or when they start to “lose” who they are. Kids will start to take on this character who they are on social media. Everybody asking them questions and tips and in their real life not so much.”
Social Media started as a fun way to share your life, now it’s a habit that takes self-control.
“Put restrictions on them. I always tell parents to give children boundaries, don’t let your children give you boundaries, and what that means is a lot of kids are saying, “no you can’t look at mine” or “this is my profile” and when you do that as a parent, you allow other people to groom your kids or allow them to give them information and set your kids up.” says Frost.
