Humane Society of Yuma waives fees for Independence Day

The Humane Society of Yuma is waiving impound and boarding fees for animals that get lost and are brought to the shelter on the 4th of July

In preparation for the 4th of July, the Humane Society of Yuma is asking its residents and visitors to think about their family pets. More animals go missing on the 4th of July than any other day of the year. Year after year, HSOY sees an increase in lost animals overnight on the evening of the 4th.

In preparation of the holiday weekend, if residents must leave their pets at home during the time that there may be loud noises, crating is the best option. When crating is not an option securing the family pet/s in the most comfortable area inside your home is suggested. Additionally, turn on the TV or radio to add background noise to help drown out explosive noises that may cause stress to your animal. Notorious with Independence Day is the high temperatures, especially in Yuma. “Yuma’s summer heat is dangerous for all of us that live here. The heat can be life threatening in minutes for your pets; please ensure that outdoor animals have an adequate water supply in non-metal bowls and adequate shade” says Annette Lagunas, Executive Director. In the event that your dog or cat does escape the comforts of home, please make sure your animal is licensed, wears a tag or has a microchip.

Accidents happen all too often this time of the year; HSOY urges the public to keep your pets safe this holiday weekend. The Humane Society is open regular business hours on July 5th. On July 5th and 6th only, HSOY is waiving all impound and boarding fees. This only applies to animals that come into the shelter on the 3rd or 4th of July. Licensing fees still apply. The Humane Society of Yuma’s shelter location will be closed Tuesday, July 4th.
