Community celebrates ‘EMS’ Week

Emergency Medical Services week is in full swing and our local fire department as well as other parts of law enforcement are celebrating. It’s a time where officials and people all around the world come together to give thanks to those that are always there for us in the time of need, when an emergency occurs. Until May 27th, Yuma Fire Department will be covering different aspects of emergency care and safety. Monday night, YFD held a ceremony at Fire Station One to commemorate all local emergency responders. Mike Erfert with YFD, shares some of the positions that were honored at the ceremony. “We started off with a ceremony on Monday to recognize the emergency medical dispatcher of the year, the emergency medical technician (EMT) and the paramedic of the year, along with others that have performed very great services to the department and to the community over this last year,” said Erfert. 2017 marks the 43rd annual observation of ‘EMS’ week, with this year’s theme being “EMS Strong: Always in service.” For more information on how you can take part in the week long event, you can visit YFD’s Facebook page and Twitter feed. www.facebook.com/City-of-Yuma-Fire-Department-211899728829028/ www.twitter.com/YumaFireDept
