Closing Arguments underway in La Mesa Street Murders trial
Closing arguments are underway in day 26 of the La Mesa Street Murders Trial.
50-year-old Preston Strong is accused of murdering a family of six.
During Monday’s proceedings State Prosecutor Karolyn Kaczorowski told the jury that Strong acted alone in murdering 35-year-old Luis Rios, 29-year-old Adrienne Heredia and her four children; Andreas Crawford, 13; Enrique Bedoya, 12; Inez Newman, 9; and Danny Heredia III, 6.
“This crime required information and access to these victims. It required motives, it required a great deal of opportunity because these murders happened over at least six hours worth of time,” Kaczorowski argued, “That’s a huge chunk of opportunity that is needed and not one shred of evidence has been presented to you that anybody but Preston Strong had that opportunity with those motives and that information.”
The prosecution will finish their closing arguments on Tuesday.
The defense is also expected to make their closing remarks on Tuesday.
Strong requested to address the court during Monday’s proceedings. Judge Maria Elena Cruz agreed to hear his remarks on Tuesday morning, before closing arguments resume.
Jurors also received jury instructions during Monday’s proceedings.
