Good Samaritan alerts neighbor to fire in back of home
Firefighters say a Good Samaritan’s quick thinking saved a resident’s home Wednesday night.
According to reports, a woman was driving down the street when she saw the back of a neighbor’s home on fire.
The homeowner says the woman pulled over and ran to knock on the door and inform him of the fire.
Yuma Fire Department officials say the homeowner was able to quickly get out, call 9-1-1 and begin extinguishing the fire with a garden hose.
According to firefighters, the homeowner’s actions may have saved his home. He was able to start putting out the flames before they spread to the attic; and fire crews were able to quickly contain them when they arrived on scene.
The incident happened near downtown Yuma, on First Avenue and Fourth Street.
Firefighters say no one was reported injured. Investigators and inspectors were hoping to have the homeowner back in his home Wednesday night.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire crews arrived on scene around 7:30 p.m.
Despite, the happy outcome, firefighters want to remind the public to always call 9-1-1 before putting out a fire on your own.
The homeowner says the Good Samaritan was the real hero in saving his home.
