Police crack down on DUI drivers over the weekend

The El Centro Police Department conducted a DUI patrol this weekend in an effort to reduce the number of incidents caused by impaired drivers.

Police officers patrolled the streets of El Centro Friday and Saturday in search of drunk drivers resulting in a total of 11 arrests.

Two of those arrests were related to driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

The other nine were suspects arrested on other criminal charges.

The patrols were conducted between 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. on both days.

According to authorities there were also a total of 66 vehicle enforcement stops and 53 citations were issued.

The El Centro Police Department says impaired drivers can not only face time in jail but also a series of fees that can quickly add up.

“If they are actually charged criminally it could be jail time and significant fines associated with it one of the other issues that people often don’t take into consideration is what they pay for insurance fees,” said Cmdr. Aaron Reel.

ECPD says they will be having future DUI saturation patrols in their ongoing commitment to lower deaths and injuries in local streets and highways.
