Firefighters respond to house fire

The Yuma Fire Department believes a buildup of natural gas caused a house fire Sunday afternoon. YFD said just after 2:30 p.m., a residential fire was reported in the 300 block of South 14 th Avenue.

Arriving Yuma Fire Department personnel found smoke and flames coming from the roof area of 375 South 14 th Avenue. The fire was found to be burning in an exterior water heater enclosure and beginning to extend into the residence. Firefighters said they were able to quickly extinguish the fire before it spread to other areas of the home.

There were five people inside the home at the time of the fire (two adults and three children) they were all able to evacuate safely. The fire was discovered when smoke was seen by one of the occupants. Although repairs will need to be made, the home was able to be reoccupied.
