Nestled along the Colorado River Yuma’s Historic Downtown area is considered the heart of the city. The City of Yuma has unveiled a new plan to add to the historic district by means of a university.

Preliminary plans for the school show it would be built just south of Giss Parkway and north of 8th Street. The University’s main campus would run along Madison Avenue’s Century Heights where homes date back to the early 1900’s.

The school will also have buildings along Gila Street on the west side of the Union Pacific Railroad. If approved the project would take approximately fifteen years to complete and is projected not only to be boost for the economy, but also would give new life to downtown.
