Special Report: Family matriarch, pioneer celebrates 100th birthday

A Yuma woman who paved the way for generations of U.S. citizens celebrated her 100th birthday in Yuma. People from all over the Desert Southwest, the country, and even from other parts of the world, came together to celebrate Tomasa Castañeda, the powerful matriarch who was born on January 3, 1917.

Castañeda became a U.S. citizen in 1974. She is the mother of 10 children and grandmother of 34 grandchildren. She says her faith in God motivates her every day, along with her strong love for her family. Castañeda says she wishes these things for the rest of the world as well.
