Police looking for vehicle theft suspect
The Yuma Police Department (YPD) is looking for a suspect who allegedly stole a vehicle at gunpoint.
The incident was first reported Thursday at 3:10 a.m. in area of Avenue B and 20th Street.
Officer say they believe the man threatened the driver with a gun and took the 1998 Honda Accord.
The car was found shortly after near Avenue A and 32nd Street where officers tried to pull the car over, however, the driver fled from police.
The pursuit led Yuma police toward California where Imperial County sheriff deputies and Quechan police assisted. The suspect eventually drove back into Yuma, but Yuma police lost track of him near 1st Avenue and 18th Street.
The car was found in the 200 block of 20th Place after crashing into the backyard wall of a home, but the suspect was nowhere to be found.
Witnesses tell us YPD told them the suspected may be armed and instructed them to stay inside for safety.
The suspect is described as 5 feet 8 inches, thin build and wearing dark-colored jeans, grey long-sleeve shirt, with a bandana that had what appeared to be teeth printed on it over his face.
