Local police continue search for suspect involved in shooting behind local bar
A man is still in the hospital after a shooting behind a local bar sent him into surgery Sunday evening.
According to neighboring residents and business owners, who wish to remain anonymous, two men were seen fighting in the back of a local bar. Witnesses say they heard a shot fired just moments later.
They say right after that gunshot they heard the victim crying out, “It hurts, it hurts!”
Local police arrived on scene and say the victim went inside the bar–seeking help.
“We didn’t find the suspect but we did find a hand gun, a magazine that went to it, and some clothing that we believe belonged to the shooter,” explains Yuma Police Sergeant Lori Franklin.
The shooter is said to have gone through a back alley, through a neighboring residential area, dumping the belongings that are believed to be his in someone’s backyard.
Officers say they don’t have a lead on the suspect because the victim is in the hospital after undergoing surgery and they have not been able to speak with him.
“We don’t have a description of the suspect at this time,” explains Sergeant Franklin. “It’s still under investigation.”
The owner of the bar was unavailable to comment, however just hours after officers responded to the shooting, the owner publicly posted a video from inside the bar on Facebook with the caption, “See, we are all good!!!”
That evening, some customers were unable to enter the bar because of police activity.
“We don’t have anything to show us that it’s gang-related at this time, but again it’s still under investigation,” states Sergeant Franklin.
Police have not identified the victim, however they confirm he is a Native American man.
