Armed man leads Border Patrol on pursuit

An armed man was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents after he fled the checkpoint on Highway 111.

Agents say the incident happened Thursday evening when the 35-year-old man drove up to the inspection station in a U-Haul truck. A K-9 officer alerted the truck and the man was sent to secondary inspection. The man was cooperative at first, according to agents, however moments later he sped away.

Agents say they were able to bring the U-Haul to a stop with spike strips shortly after. They had to extract the man from the car after asking him several times to step out of the truck.

Agents found a loaded shotgun and 20 to 30 additional rounds in the passenger seat of the truck.

The man, a U.S. citizen, will be prosecuted for high speed flight from an immigration checkpoint and other unlawful acts.
