Topic of the Day: Soldiers required to pay back bonuses

13 On Your Side wants to know your thoughts:

Imagine, Uncle Sam wanting you to re-enlist and offering you a bonus, debt forgiveness and much more. Now, turn the clock ten years forward and Uncle Sam is calling asking for that money back.

Almost ten thousand Army National Guardsmen are being asked to pay back bonuses they received back in 2006; at the time the National Guard was failing to keep re-enlistment numbers up.

So enlistment officers offered soldiers to re-enlist providing them with bonuses and other incentives worth tens of thousands of dollars. Some of those enlistment officers have been indicted on fraud charges and now the Department of Defense is asking for soldiers to pay that money back.

13 On Your Side wants to know your thoughts:

What do you think about the Department of Defense asking soldiers to pay back re-enlistment bonuses?
