Registration for expanded child tax credit opens

(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - The IRS announced a new online tool to help low income Americans who can now register for the new child tax credit.

The credit is only for the current tax year and is increasing to $3,600 for children under the age of six. It will be worth $3,000 for children ages six to 18.

The IRS is also opening a second tool in a few weeks to let families opt out of receiving the advanced monthly payments, instead collecting the entire expanded credit at tax time.
