Remembering Governor Jane Dee Hull
Former Arizona Gov. and husband die within hours of each other
PHOENIX. (KYMA, KECY) - Jane Hull was a pioneer in Arizona politics. The first woman elected Speaker of the Arizona House, and first woman elected governor passed away on April 16.
Governor Doug Ducey today made a statement on the passing of former Arizona Governor Jane Hull and her husband Dr. Terry Hull, saying, "Arizona is deeply saddened" by their passing.
“A former teacher, legislator, Arizona’s first woman Speaker of the House of Representatives, Secretary of State, and Arizona’s first woman elected governor, Governor Hull was a trailblazer and principled leader whose vision and commitment, especially to our state’s kids, will have a lasting impact.

Hull arrived in Arizona in 1962 with her husband, a doctor who served on the Navajo Nation.
In her 25 years of public service, Hull led Arizona through "turbulent political times," making decisions for the long-term benefit of Arizonans.
“Governor Hull’s legacy includes bringing members of both parties together to pass Proposition 301, a generational funding source for our schools; establishing KidsCare, providing health care to tens of thousands of Arizona kids in need; and helping to launch TGen, a first-of-its-kind genomics research institute in Arizona," continued Gov. Ducey.
Of her passing, House Speaker Rusty Bowers said the following:
"The State has lost one of our most respected and toughest leaders with the passing of Jane Hull. As our Governor and first female Speaker of the House, Jane was courageous and always focused on doing what was best for the people of Arizona. As a friend and former colleague, she was down to earth and loyal. I take comfort in knowing that Jane remains with her beloved husband, Terry, whose passing we also mourn. I will miss them both... lots of great memories."

Governor Ducey has ordered all state flags be lowered to half-staff in Hull's memory.
