Eight candidates run for a seat on the El Centro City Council

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Eight candidates are running for a seat on the El Centro City Council. Three seats are open.

On Wednesday, we highlight three candidates who are running for a seat on the council: John Marty Ellett, Bill Caldwell and Claudia Camarena.

Bill Caldwell is a local business owner and has been a businessman for more than 40 years.

Claudia Camarena is a retired program manager who worked for 30 years at the Department of Social Services.

Marty Ellett is a retired nurse and a businessman who is running for the first time.

All three candidates say they are ready to help the community of El Centro grow and share what they will do if elected.

"We have a methadone clinic that is really close to us that causes great damage to the local neighborhood and businesses downtown. The things I would like to do is try to either get it moved or remove one of the two from this area," Caldwell shared.

"Definitely be able to be the voice for the everyday resident and one of the most important things is that I would be able to be a full time council member unfortunately a lot of council members at this time have full time jobs so it's difficult for them to apply themselves fully," Camarena expressed.

"I am concerned about the city of El Centro and that means families...especially children and you know to secure our future that affects everything in the city that we have all these issues about like the streets, the sidewalks that need to be repaired or our hospital that needs to be secured," Ellett remarked.
