Alleged Al-Qaeda leader ran Arizona driving school
PHOENIX, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - New details on the man wanted in Iraq for two charges of murder reveal he ran an Arizona driving school.
The Arizona Republic reports 42-year-old Ali Yousif Ahmed Al- Nouri had been living in the U.S. for over ten years, and had recently started a family.
Information provided by the Iraqi Government allege Ahmed served as a leader for a group of Al-Quaeda terrorists in Iraq.
The Department of Justice says Ahmed and other members of Al-Qaeda shot and killed a lieutenant and officer in 2006.
He arrived in the U.S. in 2008 as an Iraqi refugee.
Multiple sources who know Ahmed have since said they are in disbelief of the allegations, claiming, "He's a really good guy."
On Friday Ahmed appeared before a magistrate judge to begin extradition proceedings.
If his case is certified by the court, the final extradition decision will be made by the U.S. Secretary of State.
