State elections offer narrow political options for millions of California voters
Lop-sided ballots reflect struggles of Republican Party
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Millions of California voters will have little or no choice of Republican candidates when it comes to choosing a state lawmaker this year.
State election officials say, only one political party is represented on primary ballots for 24 out of California's 100 districts. They say, in those districts the candidates are overwhelmingly Democratic, because the Republican Party failed to field any candidates to run against them.
That leaves more than 14-million of the states 40-million people with no choice between major political parties when choosing their state representative.
Early primary voting started Monday throughout California. The primary election will be held on March 3.
