Bipartisan bill passed makes it harder to overturn presidential election results
(KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - Democratic and Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill may not agree on much but many seem to agree that the person elected President is who should become President.
Late last night, a new bipartisan bill passed which would make it harder to overturn a certified presidential election.
The bill is likely to become a law and it solidifies what the Vice President can't do - dating back to the riot at the U.S. Capitol when former President Trump wanted Mike Pence to throw out results of the 2020 election.
It also prevents swapping out electoral college members -- with people willing to support a candidate who didn't win.
Just nine Republicans supported the bill, but that legislation went further than the Senate version. That's why the Senate plan seems to have enough support to eventually pass both chambers.
Lawmakers though are unlikely to hold those votes until after the fall elections.
