DHS to extend work permits for immigrants in the US
(KYMA, KECY/CNN) - The Department of Homeland Security announced the automatic extension of work permits for immigrants lasting at least six more months.
DHS says the extension is due to a backlog of renewals.
Immigrants who work in the United States have to regularly renew their permits but DHS is estimating a backlog of about 87,000 applicants who are waiting to for their renewal process.
If renewals aren't granted then work permits would lapse and employers would have to let go thousands of workers, which could disrupt the supply chain nationwide.
