Suicides in young people may have increased during pandemic

(KYMA, KECY/CNN) - A new study further confirms a mental health decline in adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Clearly a lot of young people are struggling," began John Ackerman of the Center for Suicide Prevention and Research.

Jama Pediatrics published a study regarding death records in multiple states with suicide as a cause in over 85,000 cases.

The CDC says suicides in the U.S. have declined in 2020 but those rates did not go down for young people.

"Have you ever thought of ending your life? Are you thinking about suicide right now? Often they will feel relieved that an adult has asked that question," explains Ackerman.
