Department of Education may help those with student loan debt

(KYMA, KECY/CBS) - The Department of Education made an announcement regarding possible changes to student loan debts and noted immediate forgiveness.

Many Americans are facing student loan debts, which has totaled to more than a trillion dollars.

"The history of this program is that it has been rife with abuses and problems, both on the servicing side and on the Department of Education side," expressed Persis Yu of the Student Borrower Protection Center.

Acknowledging the debts is one step and now the Department of Education will be reviewing payment times for certain borrowers.

Up to 40,000 people may received some kind of help but nothing specific has been noted.
