Eye on Jobs: Your downtime could land you your next job
Career experts with the Goodwill Career Center of Yuma recommend using your time wisely and volunteering whenever possible
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Whether you're in-between jobs or looking to advance, a good way of doing that is volunteering. That's according to Courtney Nelson the Marketing Director for the Goodwill Career Center of Yuma.
Nelson says that volunteering can open new doors and new experiences. Right off the back, you're networking, meeting new people and Nelson says that in itself and make a huge difference.
Nelson says your commitment to your community already serves as a good first impression when meeting new people. As you work alongside your new peers, they'll be able to see your work ethic and how you work with others.
A by-product of volunteering is learning new skills. If you're helping to repair someone's home you can learn how to use new tools.
Another benefit of volunteering is blank spots in your work history, by listing volunteering efforts employers see that you keep yourself busy. For more ways on how you can use volunteer work on your resume, you can visit the Goodwill Career Center of Yuma's website.
