Eye on Jobs; local students get a glimpse into the future
Students from Yuma Elementary School District One got to fast forward to adulthood
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - It's not uncommon for children to wish to skip over childhood and go straight to adulthood. The dream to do as you want, when you want is very appealing.
But, as we all know the second you hit adulthood, you wish you could turn back the hands of time and go back.
It's that very sentiment that drove local educators to partner with Junior Achievements USA. JA specializes in showing students how the real world works.
The program teaches students everything they'll need to hit adulthood running. Students learn about their resumes, how to apply for a job, and even interact in mock job interviews.
They also get hands-on training on how to fill out their W-2 and other important documentation. They learn the difference between their gross and net income.
But, this program isn't just about books and pretend interviews. Students are put to the test, by way of a facility in Tempe.
JA's Biztown is a make-shift town where students run day-to-day operations like businesses, banks, and even grocery stores.
In Biztown students will receive their checks and see just how far their money will take them. JA also offers parents and students online tools.
