Suspect in liquor store incident back in court

Luis Arellano faces a slew of charges in connection with early morning altercation with law enforcement

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The suspect involved in the incident outside of a Fourth Avenue liquor store, who was under a felony warrant, appeared before a judge for the second time on Tuesday.

The Yuma Police Department (YPD) said that 31-year-old Luis Arellano was in the drive-thru at the Quality Liquor in the early morning hours on October 7, when they tried to make contact with him, pursuing a warrant for his arrest.

Arellano then backed up and pulled forward several times, hitting both a civilian vehicle and a number of marked patrol cars before police were able to constrain him and take him into custody.

Arellano is facing charges including aggravated assault, possession of narcotics for sale, and endangerment. He will also face charges for being a felon in possession of a weapon.

All of these charges go along with a lengthy wrap sheet prior to this arrest.

In court Tuesday, the defense asked the judge for a 30-day continuance as they collect multiple plea agreements from the state.

Arellano is scheduled to be arraigned on October 25.
