Migrant families waiting for buses to next destination
As families of migrants are being released into the community because of overcrowding at Border Patrol processing facilities, some are camping outside the Greyhound bus stop waiting to make it to their next destination.
News 11 found a family of five, who said they came from Honduras, sitting outside a fast food restaurant right across the street from the bus stop.
The migrant, who did not want to be identified, explained they were released with ankle monitors.
He said it took his family two and a half months to travel to the Yuma region. He added they were headed to meet up with their family to escape the corruption back home adding the gangs there are targeting young people.
The family boarded the Greyhound bus with the tickets their family members bought them. They said they planned to head east.
” It’s been good, good, good. Thank God. We wanted to come in and move forward, help our family move forward, ” said the migrant.
When News 11 asked why the family chose to continue to the U.S. when they reached Mexico, they said it’s because money is worth more in the United States.
One dollar is the equivalent of nearly 20 pesos.
Families of migrants will continue to be released into the Yuma community daily, according to Yuma Mayor Doug Nicholls.
