Man accused of barricading himself for hours appears in court
The man who police said barricaded himself inside a Yuma mobile home for hours Tuesday made his initial appearance in Yuma Justice Court Wednesday.
Alejandro Cunningham was arrested on 9 charges after police said they released gas to get Cunningham out of the home.
“As far as it happening, I’m not real comfortable with that, but as far as the police present to take care of it. I thought that was an awesome job,” explained Ron Benson, a witness.
YPD said the entire situation was sparked by Cunningham disobeying a court order.
During Cunningham’s initial appearance Judge Gregory Stewart expressed his concerns about the suspect’s conditions of release.
“I’m concerned that there is a pending matter in Superior Court as well as a case where you were recently sentenced to unsupervised probation in Justice Court precinct one,” said Judge Stewart, Yuma Justice Court Precinct 1.
Cunningham’s criminal history dates back to 2000, according to court records.
Cunningham’s bond was $100,000 dollars. He will be back in Yuma Justice Court Friday.
