Tempe police: Lyft rider accused of killing a pregnant woman
Police in Tempe said a pregnant woman who was fatally stabbed outside an apartment complex was a Lyft driver and was allegedly killed by a customer.
At a news conference Monday, police identified the victims as 39-year-old Kristina Howato and her unborn child.
Police say Howato was in her third trimester of pregnancy.
They say 20-year-old Fabian Durazo allegedly attacked Howato when they arrived at an apartment complex early Sunday and he fled in her SUV.
Authorities say Durazo was later arrested near Quartzite, about 25 miles (40 kilometers) from the California border.
Durazo is being held at a La Paz County jail on suspicion of two counts of first-degree murder and one count each of kidnapping and armed robbery.
It was unclear Monday if he has a lawyer yet.
