Local organization helps migrants waiting at San Luis Port of Entry
Campesinos Sin Fronteras, a organization, with the help of students and a local church, fed the line of migrants waiting to make a claim of asylum in the United States waiting at the San Luis Port of Entry Thursday.
Many of the migrants took the sandwiches that students from four different middle schools and high schools made.
“The people are helping with what they can with supplies,” said Magdalena Elifer, a migrant.
Elifer and her family benefited from the meal.
They have been waiting in the line for three days in hopes of better opportunities.
“You’re giving something you have to the people here at the border. It really makes you feel satisfied,” said Ivan Gutierrez with Campesinos Sin Fronteras.
Gutierrez said this will not be the last time the group delivers meals to the migrants like Elifer.
Elifer describes the lengthy process to speak to a U.S. official.
“It varies sometimes four pass per day. Yesterday more than 10 people passed,” said Elifer.
Her family is 56th on the list of migrants in the line waiting for their chance to claim asylum.
