Rep. Kyrsten Sinema visits Yuma
Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema made a campaign stop in Yuma Tuesday afternoon to begin her health care tour in and hold a rally with voters.
The now U.S. Senate candidate sat down with Yuma community leaders at a roundtable first.
Sinema sat and took notes alongside members from the agriculture and medical communities as well as political leaders.
Sinema addressed issues that she said directly affect rural Arizona such as immigration, education, healthcare, and water.
One of the topics agriculture leaders brought to Sinema’s attention was how immigration and agriculture go hand in hand.
She addressed how those who call the southwest home understand the immigration crisis. She added that they have been living it for the past 30 years.
“So, it’s a real opportunity to teach people about what it’s really like here and what our needs actually are. But, I hear you 100 percent on the agricultural needs. We have, actually in Arizona, never been able to meet our labor needs without outside assistance,” said Sinema.
Sinema also touched on public education and expressed that she thinks the education system should shift gears to focus more on developing skills to prepare students to compete in today’s global climate.
Sinema then made her way to a rally with voters.
Voters said they were looking to hear more on education while they waited for her to arrive.
