Yuma and Imperial counties prepare for storms
The remnants of Hurricane Rosa has parts of the desert southwest preparing for heavy rains in the following days. As a result, a flood watch will be in effect starting Monday for Yuma and Imperial counties that will last till Tuesday.
Officials with the Imperial County will be ready to respond to any adversity and they will provide updates and information as it becomes available according to a statement released by county officials.
They also asked that the public have emergency kits ready in their homes and vehicles.
Rural Metro is also preparing for the storms to come.
“I have been told by our battalion that they’re in the pre-plan stages. He said that they are working on plans and operation strategies if the situation arises,” explained Charly McMurdie, Rural Metro Fire public information officer.
They also advise the public not to drive in flooded areas.
The Red Cross is also gearing up for rain.
The volunteers from Yuma County that traveled to both North and South Carolina for Hurricane Florence are on their way back to assist at home.
“First thing they are going to do is watch the storm and see which direction it’ll take and that in turn will decide how they take action. Whether they need to go in and rescue people in certain areas. Set up shelters in certain areas for people who may be stranded due to the location of their home,” said Charly McMurdie, Red Cross public information officer.
The Red Cross added it may be preparing for power outages as well because it said power could be lost in large areas.
