What you need to know about the 2018 California ballot measures
UPDATE: Polling places are open from 6 A.M. to 7 P.M.
The general elections in November call for a long list of Statewide propositions.
There are 11 Statewide ballot measures on the November ballot for California.
These measures range from measures on property taxes to healthcare.
Proposition 1: Authorizes the bond to fund specified housing assistance programs.
Proposition 2: Authorizes bond to fund the existing housing program for individuals with mental illness.
Per this bill, voters agreed that “housing is a key factor for stabilization and recovery from mental illness and results in improved outcomes for individuals living with a mental illness”.
Proposition 3: Authorizes bonds to fund projects for water supply and quality.
In this ballot measure, it is stated that because California is a dry state, the agricultural economy relies on a high-quality water supply.
It is argued that this proposition will make water use more efficient, reduce demand for water, and protect key environmental uses for water.
proposition 4: Authorizes bonds funding construction at hospitals providing children’s healthcare.
The grants awarded for this act would contribute towards the expansion or improvement of health care access by children eligible for governmental health insurance programs.
Proposition 5: Changes requirements for certain property owners to transfer their property tax base to a replacement property
Proposition 6: Eliminates certain road repair and transportation funding. Requires certain fuel taxes and vehicle fees be approved by the electorate.
This ballot hopes to eliminate any future taxes to be put on gasoline.
Proposition 7: Conforms California daylight saving time to federal law. Allows legislature to change daylight saving time period.
Proposition 8: Regulates amounts outpatient kidney dialysis clinics charge for dialysis treatment.
Proposition 10: Expands local governments’ authority to enact rent control on residential property.
If this act were to be put in place, it would allow a city or county to adopt a regulation that governs a landlord’s right to establish an increase of rental rate on a dwelling.
Proposition 11: Requires private-sector emergency ambulance employees to remain on-call during work breaks.
This act would ensure public health and safety measures for EMT’s when it comes to meal and rest breaks.
Proposition 12: Establishes new standards for confinement of specified farm animals; bans sale of non-complying products.
This proposition is intended to prevent animal cruelty by redefining farm animal confinement.
