NAACP Yuma says: ‘Kaepernick was not trying to disrespect the nation’

While the controversial protests may be igniting several conversations on both ends of the spectrum, the reason these protests began is to shed light on racial injustice.

What began as an intentional peaceful protest against police brutality and racial injustice against minorities has caused an uproar in the nation.

Locals have expressed their thoughts on both Nike and the NFL, mostly saying they are frustrated with the way the protest unfolded on the field. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Yuma Chapter (NAACP) believes this protest is in no way or form meant to disrespect anyone.

“It is kind of like a covering of the eyes of the truth and what really matters. I believe Colin Kaepernick was not trying to disrespect the nation or the military, but trying to make a stand for what he believes an in…a lot of times we are being blinded and we are not focused on the bigger picture,” Vice President, Freddy Barron shared.
