Man arrested for attempting to smuggle heroin
U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers arrested a man for attempting to smuggle heroin at the San Ysidro port of entry on Wednesday.
At approximately 4 p.m. a CBP canine team was screening travelers as they waited in line for inspection when a detector dog alerted to a 60-year-old man. During their search an anomaly was found on his torso.
CBP said they escorted the man into a secure area where they discovered two packages of heroin strapped to his torso.
The heroin weighed more than five pounds and has an estimated street value of $57,000.
CBP said they seized the narcotics.
“CBP utilizes a layered enforcement approach at our ports of entry,” said Pete Flores, Director of Field Operations for CBP in San Diego. “CBP canine teams are one of the many layers we rely on when combating narcotic and human smuggling .”
