‘Psychedelic Sweets’ exhibit for local neon artist
The Yuma Art Center is giving a local artist some well deserved exposure with an exhibit to display his neon creations.
The exhibit is called ‘Psychedelic Sweets’ and artist Scott Brown is the master mind behind the theme.
Brown has been creating neon art since 2004 after receiving inspiration from one of his children’s coloring books.
“When you get into that, when you start working with the glass and you see the finished product it’s a real big accomplishment,” said Brown.
Arts and Culture Program Manager Lindsay Benacka says neon art is not common which is what brought her attention to Brown’s work.
“So neon is an interesting art form and a lot of times you see it in commercial settings or signs but Scott’s work speaks for itself. It’s a work of fine art, it’s a work of handmade craftsmanship that is a fading skill set and its definitely an art form that we are championing and we are shining a light on literally in this show.”
Brown says he is looking forward to meeting locals and sharing more of his art to the community.
“It takes a lot of work and time and I like to see people’s reactions you know when they get excited to see something so different,” said Brown.
The exhibit is on Friday, August 24, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Yuma Art Center.
