Local bowling tournament to raise money for Yuma veterans
On S aturday , I nca Lanes bowling alley and R ight Turn for Y uma Veterans hosted their 6th annual bowling tournament.
Right Turn for Y uma Veterans is a 6 bedroom group home that provides transitional housing for homeless or at-risk veterans.
This program is a non-profit group that has been serving veterans now for 35 years.
Veterans are provided with housing, life skills training, counseling and coaching for up to two years.
In order to function as contributing members of society, Right Turn for Yuma Veterans hopes to identify and address problems that many veterans face.
Tonight’s bowling tournament will help raise money for the group’s general fund.
Jodie Wight, a board member with the group said, “We are raising money for the general funds and operation for the home. A lot of our veterans come in with little to no income so they need income and our general funds help them.”
The group works with one or more of the three main areas that are issues with homeless veterans: lack of sufficient income to maintain housing, medical or social difficulties that prevent employment, and a lack of support systems within the community.
