Arizona public interest group calls on leaders to push harder for solar

New report details benefits of converting all new building to electric-only

PHOENIX, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - According to the latest numbers from the U.S. Census Report 48% of homes in the United State use natural gas. Those staggering numbers have prompted the Arizona Public Interest Research Group to call on leaders to make drastic changes.

PIRG is pleading with leaders to push legislation to build homes and commercial buildings using solely electricity. According to their findings, the use of natural gas increases greenhouse gases.

Their report Electric Buildings: Repowering Homes and Businesses for Our Health and Environment was released this week. In it, the showcase the benefits of converting to purely electricity by the year 2050.

According to the report, if homes and commercial buildings were to be electrified by 2050, that could result in the elimination of more than 300-million metric tons of greenhouse gases.
