City of Calexico celebrates 110th year anniversary
The City of Calexico is preparing for their 110th year anniversary with a week-long list of activities.
The city will have art exhibits, downtown parade, historical tours of local landmarks, and a concert at Rockwood Park with a projected cost of $40,000.
As the city faces a current financial crisis where city employees are being laid off, city officials say the community will pay for the party through sponsorships. They hope the event will bring unity and strength to the area at a time they say is most needed.
“A fractured financial situation that we’ve had for quite a while. A lot of individuals have seen that the results in the community show that we have had those issues. However, we also have a community that is absolutely resilient in knowing that although the administration of the city could be upside down, the community is still very excited what this represents and we feel it,” said Maritza Hurtado, Calexico City Mayor.
The City of Calexico anniversary will run from April 10th through 16th.
