It’s referred to as hyperarousal, or the acute stress response which lies within all of us; basically reffered to as “fight or flight”. In many cases we don’t know which of the two we will do until we’re placed in a stressful situation, case in point a bank robbery.
Last week, hotel general manager Robert Sakowsky walked into a Scotts Township bank, by all accounts it seemed like a normal day. Moments later, a hooded man walked in wearing a mask and began waving a gun and demanding money. According to reports as the clerk gave the robber money, 63-year old Sakowsky leaped into action attacking the gunman and body slamming him into the ground.
The good Samaritan was able to disarm the thief and even took the loot from his hands; the robber then fled with Sakowsky at his heals. As the suspect sped away, Sakowsky flagged down police sending them towards the robber, who was captured momentarily. Sakowsky wan’t the only customer in the bank at the time of the robbery, two young women were also in the bank, they fled when the altercation began.
When interviewed by local reporters coworkers of Sakowsky were surprised that he would confront the robber. All of them said that he was calm and personeable and never showed signs of aggression. Bank workers and Scotts Township residents all are praising Sakowsky for his bravery.
