$4 million of marijuana found on boat in San Diego
Border Patrol and Department of Homeland Security agents discovered a 26-foot abandoned vessel loaded with 4 million dollars worth a marijuana in Oceanside Sunday.
Both Border Patrol agents and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) were working in a Maritime Task Force together when the discovery was made.
Agents say at approximately 11:30 a.m. the Joint Harbors Operation Center notified DHS that a resident witnessed a 26-foot Grady-White vessel come ashore with two passengers. The witness said that once the vessel hit land, the two people on the boat disembarked and ran south along the shore.
Once agents responded the vessel was discovered beached with no one on board, and full of several packages of marijuana hidden in the cabin.
The weight of the packages totaled to 1,079.82-pounds, and have an estimated street value of $4,319,280.
“Although the State of California has legalized marijuana for recreational use, we still see criminal organizations attempting to smuggle illicit narcotics in elaborate methods,” said Chief Patrol Agent Douglas Harrison.
