Firefighters to climb 110 flights to honor 9/11

Firefighters and the public are honoring 343 fallen September 11 firefighters on Saturday, by climbing 110 flights of stairs at the Imperial County Fairgrounds.

The event is held in remembrance of the 18th Anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

Firefighters and members of the public will be climbing the stairs in the Grandstands multiple times that total to 110 flights.

Check in for the event begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Board Room, while the opening ceremony begins at 7:40 p.m. The climb is set to begin at 8:00 p.m.

If you would rather walk than climb stairs, you may do so around the race track.

A registration fee of $30 per person is required at onsite registration. The Stair Climb benefits the FDNY Counseling Services Unit and programs provided by the NFFF to support the families of the fallen firefighters.

There will also be a fireworks display as well as a drawing for prizes.

This event is held by the Imperial Valley 9-1-1 Memorial Event and Stair Climb Committee, on behalf of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation ( NFFF ). The committee consists of several Valley first responders and agencies.
