House fire displaces family of 8
A family of eight was displaced after waking up to a fire Tuesday morning.
It happened in their mobile homes near County 18th street and Avenue A 1/2 near Yuma.
The family reported that the fire initially started in a mobile home and quickly wiped through the second home that they also own.
Resident Natalia Fraga said she left for an appointment with her son a little after 9 a.m., and 20 minutes later her husband called her to return home because their family’s two mobile homes were on fire.
Inside at the time were Fraga’s husband, three babies, and her parents.
Fraga was in shock because it all happened so fast. ” I just wanted to make sure my kids were ok. I have memorabilia of my brother that passed away. That was one of the main things [ i was worried about] besides my kids being out safely, is that my brother’s stuff is gone. That’s all I had from him, ” she said.
Rural Metro Fire arrived at the scene of the fire around 10 am. After attacking the fire for about three hours in the extremely humid heat, firefighters were able to completely contain the blaze, but the homes were both destroyed.
According to Rural M etro, mobile homes are more prone to catch fire. That is why they advise people who live in them to always have up to date, working smoke detectors.
The cause of this fire is under investigation. The American Red Cross will assist the family with resources for clothes and shelter.
The family is also accepting donations via Facebook.
