Arizona governor releases guidelines for re-opening retail
Businesses meeting protocols can open next week
PHOENIX, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Arizona Governor Doug Ducey and the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) announced Friday some retails businesses will be allowed to re-open starting next week.
Businesses will have to follow strict protocols to resume operations. They'll have to ramp up sanitation practices, and find ways to promote physical distancing guidelines to minimize the risk of corovirus exposure.
“As we breathe life back into our businesses, we want to make sure we’re taking common sense precautions to keep employees and customers safe,” said Governor Ducey. “Taking these responsible steps that prioritize public health will help grow confidence and ensure we don’t just reopen all businesses, but do it successfully. I’m grateful to all the business owners and employees putting safety first and providing their feedback as we take continued steps to reenergize Arizona’s economy.”
Under an Executive Order signed Wednesday, starting May 4, retail businesses that have established and implemented sanitation and physical distancing measures can sell goods in the following manners:
- delivery service
- window service
- walk-up service
- drive-through service
- curbside delivery
- by appointment
On Friday, May 8, businesses can resume partial openings, but they must incorporate social distancing and enhanced sanitation measures into their practices.
Governor Ducey also hopes to re-open the state's dine-in restaurants some time in May. The governor says he is working with health officials to develop guidance for achieving that goal.
