Airport Fire forces mandatory evacuation orders
UPDATE (1:41 PM): California's Airport Fire continues its rapid spread in the hills of Orange County as the fire has now scorched more than 9,000 acres.
UPDATE (8:00 AM): The Airport Fire, burning in Orange County, California, ballooned to more than 8,000 acres overnight.
More than 1,000 firefighters were working overnight to try extinguish the flames in the Trabuco Canyon area.
The fire was first reported Monday and grew to over 5,400 acres by that night.
Several people had to be rescued from the approaching flames Monday.
Numerous roads are closed, mandatory evacuation orders are in place for several nearby neighborhoods due to the fast moving wildfire.
ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Another wildfire exploded in the hills of Southern California.
The Airport Fire, burning in Trabuco Canyon, erupted Monday afternoon near an airport for remote-controlled model airplanes.
Originally, the fire quickly grew to more than 2,000 acres, but as of Tuesday morning, the fire grew to 5,400 acres, with 0% containment, as the fire spread quickly in hazardous conditions.
More than 1,400 homes had to be evacuated and more than 1,000 firefighters responded to the blaze.
Mandatory evacuation orders were given for those living in the Robinson Ranch and Trabuco Highlands communities.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
