A miner dies and another is missing after a coal mine accident in Poland. 17 miners are injured

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Polish officials say that one of the coal miners injured when a powerful tremor shook the Rydultowy coal mine has died. He died late on Thursday in hospital, hours after the accident. One miner remained unaccounted for and at least 17 others were injured. The search for the missing miner was suspended due to the possibility of more tremors. Officials earlier said 76 miners were brought to the surface, including 17 who were hospitalized. One among them, with serious head injuries, was airlifted to hospital. Coal mine tremors can result from stress accumulated in the rock mass and can lead to dangerous rock bursts into the mine corridors.
