Suspect in attempted homicide case arrested
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The suspect in the attempted homicide from this past weekend has been arrested by the Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO).
In a press release, YCSO arrested a 38-year-old Yuma man in connection to an attempted homicide that occurred on Saturday, September 9.
YCSO says they then booked the suspect into their detention center on Tuesday, September 12 for first-degree attempted murder and aggravated assault.
He made his first court appearance on Tuesday.
“In this instance, luckily the Yuma County Sheriff's Office investigators were able to identify a suspect rather quickly and had him arrested in less than two days," stated Tania Pavlak, YCSO Public Affairs Specialist.
The Yuma County Sheriff's Office said the shooting happened Saturday night on Fifth Street and May Avenue.
Deputies found one 41-year-old man shot several times.
“It is just one person that we got off the streets this time but any little bit helps. So we do continue to encourage the community to call in any tips, talk to law enforcement if they have any answers to the questions that we’re seeking," stated Tania Pavlak, YCSO Public Affairs Specialist.
One neighbor is concerned.
“It's people in gangs, definitely people that sell drugs or kids from school that have little gangs could potentially do that. I bought this property two years ago and I had to fence it because I had youngers running through and they were probably running from the law," said Demetrio Rosas, a community member.
The suspect has a bond of $500,000 and will be back in court Thursday to find out if he's formally charged.
